Why it fades

Why brow color fades

Permanent makeup is a type of tattoo, and poor care can contribute to fading.

While you heal

Keep healing brows out of the sun

  • Sunlight can fade tattoo color, so avoid the sun, especially while your brows are healing.
  • While you heal, use shade or a hat instead of putting sunscreen on your brows.

Once healed

Once fully healed: sunscreen

  • Once your brows are fully healed, use a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher when you are in the sun.
  • Reapply it at least every two hours.
  • Stay away from tanning beds and sun lamps.

Every day

Dos and don'ts

  • While you heal, follow your aftercare steps.
  • Don't pick, scratch, or peel your brows.
  • Ask your artist before using any new products on your brows.

Over time

How long color lasts varies

How long your color lasts depends on the technique, your skin type and body, your lifestyle, and your care.

When you notice fading, ask your artist whether a refresh is right for you.
